This is truly depressing news. A Saudi court has sentenced a 19-year old rape victim that was gang raped to six months imprisonment and 200 lashes. This is more than absurd literalism; it is zulm (oppressive injustice). It is also a slur against Islam and a clear sign of just how crazy the Saudi regime really is. SAlam!!(peace)i really want to say that you must learn first what is really the meaning of Islam as a whole . not just merely conclude…read the Holy QUR’AN… if you believe then you must accept the only one God and if you will not believe then the greatest thing you will do is to you pray in God that you are in a right path.
Wa alaykum Salam Jay! I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean by your comment or how it relates to the post? I don’t see how belief in the One God entails accepting this kind of injustice, rather, it is that very belief that demands that we speak out against those wrongs falsely attributed to the law of God. This is what the Qur’an calls iftira allAllah i.e. imputing lies to God.
It is a sad that the vast majority of ‘practising’ Muslims today have such a dry and narrow understanding of our beautiful din. Every harsh and nonsensical attitude is applauded and aspired to.
This is the root of our problems; a lack of true humanity and compassion. Many are the ones so blinded by self-righteousness that they find excuses for the most grotesque acts even suicide bombings.
I hope the fall of the house of Saud is swift, but i fear their poisonous doctrine will be harder to bring down.
Shocking, 200 lashes, i.e. twice the Qur’anic punishment for adultery, just for being with an unrelated male….no 4 witnesses to any sexual act with this male.
And this to a poor girl who is a victim of gang-rape. Who comes from the Shia minority.
How will the saudi faqihs answer before God? In fact all faqihs who have made up their own laws contrary to the Laws of God?
